FROM THE PRESIDENT:
April 24, 2002
First, I would like to thank all the members and guests who have attended our meeting or the sub-committee meetings. For a Lake our size/population attendance and dues paid is fabulous. If you haven't been attending, please start. We will continue to try to inform and educate with guest speakers. I also believe there is no subject that is to taboo that it can not be discussed calmly.
Our May 1 meeting will have some potential Bylaw changes and it is important to get everybody's input on eligibility of member's voting rights and future dues. This is your chance to shape the future, even if you think it should remain the same.
The Boat Safety Committee has concluded with a list of voluntary rules that we hope all of us can abide by. State Laws still are the rules of our Lake. These new rules are more of a common courtesy.
At the Boat Launch/Park Committee, Barry Jubeck, Don's Party Store, suggested that if the members of the Lake ban outside/visitor boats from entering the Lake from our Park, he would do the same at his store. Jacques VanRooyen, Jambalaya's, has also agreed to this. Along with a few other lot rules the Bylaw Amendments won by an overwhelming majority. Although banning visitor boats may offend a few friends, I believe, along with Barry, that it's a drastic step that has to be taken to prevent any more foreign aquatic invaders from entering our Lake. In the future, members will get a key to the Lot.
John Esch has qualified for the Lake and Stream Leader's Institute starting in May 2002. This is a lot of extra class time and money for John, but a great blessing to our Lake. We are very fortunate to have someone so committed to our environment. Please join me in thanking John for his commitment. If you need a scientific answer, I believe John is our best resource.
Speaking of commitment, last year's turnout for our community clean-up was disappointing. I hope by moving the date we can get more volunteers and fresh ideas for our Saturday, May 4 clean up. This year's dumpster is primarily being paid for by a grant from Clinton County Solid Waste Department, and to execute an event like this takes time and effort. Please come with your new ideas of how we can improve our neighborhood and Lake. Ask yourself "What can I do for my community?"
Finally, I have been working on a posting of the Round Lake Water Shed. Very good progress is being made, and hopefully results will be seen this year. Remember Dues are voluntary, but are needed to continue on a progressive Lake Improvement Plan.
Thank you, Mark D. Burkhart
